What is Cybersecurity? An anecdote about a PIN.

Here is some evidence that four-digit PINs are easy to guess.

My very young child was using a school tablet.

The app said the daily limit was exceeded, and an adult’s four-digit code was needed to continue.

My child said, “I know the code.”

I asked, “How?”

Child: “I kept typing numbers until it worked.”

Me: “You didn’t see someone type the PIN?”

Child: “No. I guessed it.”

I was a proud parent. I might have a future ethical hacker in my home. =)

What is cybersecurity?

Assuming your user is not saving may not be wise. Simple deterrents are ineffective if a young child can bypass them. Consider implementing a solution that effectively protects the system. The more sensitive the data, the more secure the solution needs to be.
